Hola and welcome to Mexico City! On arrival we’ll meet you at the airport and take you to our hotel. You’ll have time to relax before meeting up with your new group of mates, and this evening we’ll head out and immerse ourselves in the capital's intoxicating atmosphere and get excited for the adventures to come!
MEXICO CITY
Bursting with colour and passion, today we explore the fascinating historical centre of Mexico City. We’ll gain insight into the Aztec Empire and learn about the history of the Spanish conquest. Passing icons like the Cathedral Metropolitan and Zocalo, we’ll have free time to explore and even listen to a mariachi song. Tonight we enjoy a traditional Mexican dinner and show together in Plaza Garibaldi.
OAXACA
After breakfast we’ll wave adiós to the city and depart for the beautiful town of Puebla, flanked by four of Mexico’s famous volcanoes. This is the perfect opportunity to learn about the history of the area – especially considering this is where Cinco de Mayo originates from! Following lunch, we’ll continue our journey to the famous Oaxaca (pronounced wah-HAH-kah). Once checked in, we’ll head out and discover the charming streets by moonlight, finding tucked away gems. Memelas, mole and empanadas are all on the menu!
OAXACA
Today we dive into the vibrant heart of Oaxaca, a cultural gem in Mexico! We'll lose ourselves in the lively, colourful markets, marvel at breathtaking cathedrals, and fully immerse in the authentic local atmosphere. After our day of exploring, the adventure continues with a night of savouring Oaxaca’s mouth-watering culinary delights.
TEHUANTEPEC
Enjoy a relaxed morning, explore more of the town or pick up some local souvenirs before we head into a nearby valley to visit a local family and learn how hand-made textiles are produced. But the culture kicks don’t stop there, as next up we’re heading to a traditional mezcal distillery. We’ll learn all about this energizing spirit and knock back a shot or two before continuing our journey to Tehuantepec for an overnight stop.
SAN CRISTOBAL DE LAS CASAS
Hopping on a local boat we’ll cruise through the immense Canyon of Sumidero, spotting towering waterfalls, lush jungle valleys, searching for monkeys and even coming face to face with crocodiles! We’ll then head up into mountains to our next destination - the iconic city of San Cristobal de las Casas. Enjoy a short walking tour and Pox tasting - a traditional drink from Chiapas region, before heading out for an incredible dinner.
SAN CRISTOBAL DE LAS CASAS
We’ll visit a local family in the beautiful small town of Zinacantan. We’ll then head to the small town of San Juan Chamula to explore and visit a one-of-a-kind church before heading back to San Cristobal de las Casas. You have free time to explore this cobblestoned city, local markets, and try Chiapas coffee – some of the smoothest in the world.
CANCUN
Leaving beautiful San Cristobal, today we hop on an included flight across Mexico and land in the wonderful hustle and bustle of Cancun, no time wasted. Situated on the Yucatán Peninsula, we’ll get our first taste of Caribbean bliss and boujee-ness. This afternoon all you need to worry about is which cocktail to order by the pool – what a life (dependant on flight time).
ISLA HOLBOX
This morning we’re off on a ferry to the paradise of Isla Holbox. When we say paradise, we mean it – think sun-drenched, powder-white beaches, emerald waters, rich marine life and rustic villages. We’ll have time to settle into the pace of island life, tuck into some authentic food, watch the sunset and pull up at a beach bar for an evening of tropical beats under the stars.
ISLA HOLBOX
Today we get to dive deep (literally) into the beauty of Isla Holbox with a boat tour. Keeping our eyes peeled for the famously photogenic pink flamingos, we’ll stop off at hidden island oasis’s and check out a local cenote. This afternoon is yours to find a hammock to lounge in, and maybe crack into that book you’ve been carrying around. Sea, relax, repeat, it’s the perfect day to unplug.
PLAYA DEL CARMEN
Today our Mexican adventure continues back into the Yucatán. Swapping slow island vibes for something a bit more high energy, we’ll check into our hotel in Playa del Carmen and have plenty of time to explore all the beaches, bars and tacos this world-famous hotspot has to offer. Souvenir shopping, anyone?
PLAYA DEL CARMEN
Getting into explorer mode, today we head to one of the New Seven Wonders of the World - Chichén Itzá. A local guide will introduce us to the myths and majesty of these iconic ruins, including Temple of Kukulkan (‘El Castillo’), the Platform of the Skulls, and the Plaza of a Thousand Columns. Later, we'll have a once-in-a-lifetime experience in the crystal waters of a stunning cenote, a natural limestone swimming hole in a secret subterranean world.
TULUM
Fiesta, siesta, today we do it all! Hitting the road this morning, we’re off to Tulum. We'll have the option to marvel in the archeological Tulum ruins, or chill in the bluer-than-blue waters of Tulum beach. Back in Playa there’s time to get ready before dinner. Let’s smash some avocado, down a tequila shot (or more), get a little loco!
BACALAR
We leave the busyness of Playa behind this morning, so jump on our bus as we travel south to the Yucatán Peninsula. We’ll make the most of Bacalar – also known as the Lagoon of Seven Colours – with a sunset boat trip. Gliding across the water, shades of turquoise ripple below us, and what better way to cool off than by jumping straight in? As the sun goes down, the sky’s warm hues reflect on the lagoon’s surface – so grab a local beer and cheers to a day in paradise.
CAYE CAULKER
Our journey continues south today as we cross the border to our next country of the trip – Belize! Belize has the second-largest barrier reef in the world, so we are heading straight to the sea on a short ferry to Caye Caulker. A small, walkable island, our hotel is less than a minute from the beach, so drop your bags and get straight out to the white sand. We will meet for sunset on the other side of the island, where the friendly local stingrays come up and literally swim between you.
CAYE CAULKER
Get your snorkels at the ready as we jump on a boat out to the incredible Hol Chan Marine Reserve, home to a vast array of marine life. At each stop, plunge into the warm water to reveal a kaleidoscope of colours: fish dart around you, coral reefs teem with life, and rays glide calmy below. At our last stop, keep your fingers crossed as there is a chance to see what the locals endearingly call sea cows – otherwise known as manatees. For dinner, find a local eatery serving up fresh seafood, drizzled with taste-bud-tingling Caribbean curry sauce. Okay, now we’re hungry.
CAYE CAULKER
Today is yours to explore at your own pace, so you’ll probably want to head to a beautiful beach or the famous ‘Split’, a natural divide created by a hurricane and the perfect spot to swim as reggae tunes play in the distance. Caye Caulker embodies the essence of Caribbean relaxation, so whether you’re eager to lounge in a hammock, sip a rum punch, go paddleboarding or explore the rich underwater world some more, we will make sure you make the most of it.
FLORES
Departing the sandy shores, we’re leaving behind Belize’s Caribbean vibes for something different. As the terrain shifts, we pass small towns and charming roadside stands selling local goods. For lunch, we’ll stop in a Mayan village, a place that embodies an ancient culture that is truly a world away from our island experience. Greeted with warm smiles, together we learn how to cook a Mayan feast the traditional way, gaining insight into the Mayan heritage that still thrives here. Bellies full, we will cross the border to Guatemala and check into our hotel on the tiny island of Flores.
FLORES
Get your Indiana Jones impression ready as we turn the clocks back thousands of years. Hidden deep in the northern jungles of Guatemala, the sprawling archaeological site of Tikal stands as a testament to the grandeur of the pre-Columbian Maya civilization. The air – thick with humidity – adds to the mystery of the giant ceremonial Lost World (Mundo Perdido) Pyramid and the Temple of the Grand Jaguar as we explore the complex with local guides.
COBÁN
Guatemala takes up a big chunk of Central America, so today we cover some distance as we travel south to the highlands. The good news is we will break up the journey with a tour of the epic Candelaria Caves – an 80km long cave system with significance to the Mayan Culture. It’s believed to be the entrance to the underworld, but you can make up your own mind! Back under the sun, we continue to Cobán, a colourful city set amongst the mountains of central Guatemala.
COBÁN
Our 4X4s are ready to take us on an adventure into the highlands this morning. Hold on tight as we travel up into the mountains, with jaw-dropping views all around us. But the adventure is not over, as we need to take the final section by foot, hiking deeper into the jungle. Emerging from the trees we’ll find what we’ve been looking for – a bright blue river carved into the mountain, cascading down the valley, leaving beautiful pools bordered with vibrant, light green algae. The whole day is ours to bath in the refreshing pools! Then, we’ll take the fun to the next level and drift down the river in rubber rings. We’ll then arrive at an authentic Mayan home for a traditional, mouthwatering lunch. What a day!
PANAJACHEL, LAKE ATITLÁN
Today our journey continues south through the highlands, stopping at the bright town of Chichicastenango. This town is a hub of Indigenous Maya traditions, and if we’re lucky we can experience its famous local markets, one of the largest in Central America. Later we’ll arrive in Panajachel, our overnight stay right on the shores of Lake Atitlán. With the sound of lapping water and towering volcanoes on the skyline, you’ll want to pinch yourself. This is quintessential Central America.
SAN JUAN, LAKE ATITLÁN
The quickest way to travel across Lake Atitlán is via boat, so doing as the locals do we’re hopping on a boat to absorb the panoramic views and head to San Marco’s. Known for being a little hippy – and extremely zen – the water entices us in for a swim. Our next stop is San Juan, home for the night, where we’re staying at an authentic homestay with a Mayan family in smaller groups to really get to know how the locals live. Despite the language barrier, our hosts will greet us with warm smiles and open hearts. Over dinner we can trade phrases, learning some Mayan along with the more widely spoken Spanish. At the very least, laughter is universal!
ANTIGUA
It’s an early start, but trust us, this one is worth getting up for. Starting in pre-dawn darkness, we’re hiking under the moonlight to reach the summit of Mayan Face Mountain, known for its unique profile resembling a Mayan Face. Just as we reach the top, the sun creeps over the horizon, revealing the beauty of Lake Atitlán from above. Our local guides will provide hot cocoa as we bask in the view, feeling a sense of accomplishment from the hike. Back down, we’ll share breakfast with the local families before we say goodbye and head towards Antigua.
ANTIGUA
Today enjoy some well-deserved free time to explore the colonial town of Antigua, a favourite for tourists and locals alike. Start your day with a leisurely breakfast at a cozy café, savouring freshly brewed Guatemalan coffee and huevos rancheros, before strolling through the parks, churches and markets. In Antigua, there’s a photo opportunity at every turn.
ACATENANGO
Today, gear up for the adventure of a lifetime. Those volcanoes we’ve been viewing from afar? Today we’re climbing one, and while it won’t be easy, the exhilarating experience will be incredibly rewarding for those willing to push their limits. Over several hours we ascend through lush forests into rocky terrain, and when the hike gets steep our local guide will keep us entertained by sharing insights about the region. As the sun sets low and the air gets thin, we reach our campsite near the summit above the clouds, setting up for an epic evening. Night falls, the sky fills with stars, and the active Volcan Fuego – AKA Fire Volcano – mesmerises us as lava bursts from the crater. You won’t be able to keep your eyes off it. *See FAQs for important info on the volcano hike & alternate activities.
ANTIGUA
An early start and steep final climb to the summit rewards us with breathtaking views of Volcan Fuego, the Antigua Valley and Guatemalan highlands stretching to Mexico. Feeling (literally) on top of the world, we’ll take in the 360 views and then start our descent to Antigua. Whatever goes up, must come down, after all. Back in town, there’s time to freshen up and explore the streets of Antigua, plus any sights you may have missed before. Finally, it’s time to dress up as we will have one final dinner and drinks in Guatemala. But don’t worry, there’s plenty more to come…
SAN JOSÉ
Who is ready for another, yes - another, country? A short included flight takes us to Costa Rica, and after landing in San José (depending on the flight time) we will have some time to dive straight into another culture. San José has some fantastic museums to start learning about Costa Rica firsthand. Tonight, we’ll head out to a local restaurant and meet our new adventure companions for the next leg of our journey.
LA FORTUNA
Today we begin learning about the rich culture and history of San José on a walking tour with a local guide who’ll point out the stunning architecture and beautiful parks nestled around every corner. This afternoon, watch the landscape shift as we travel to La Fortuna, making a stop to learn about the decorated Ox Carts that have been fundamental to Costa Rican farm life. Upon arriving in La Fortuna – a charming town known for its jungle wellness retreats – you can’t help but miss the Arenal Volcano dominating the skyline. Time to embrace the pura vida spirit!
LA FORTUNA
The outdoors await as we head into the rainforest to witness Arenal Volcano in all her majesty. Thick trails lie ahead, rewarding our efforts with incredible views of the volcano and lava fields. After sunset we’ll venture off on an evening walk, keeping an eye out for nocturnal animals, including rare frogs, tapirs, monkeys and reptiles that call this place home. But don’t worry, we’ll be safe in the hands of a guide who’ll fill us in on some fascinating insights along the way.
LA FORTUNA
This morning we’re off to meet a family who’ve lived in La Fortuna for generations. As they show us around their farm, we’ll learn how they harvest local fruit and veg, then see how a traditional Casado lunch is prepared as vibrant spices and freshly picked produce are transformed into mouthwatering dishes. With a bit of home-grown coffee to top off the experience, we’ll head back to soothe our muscles with a soak in natural hot pools, renowned for their healing properties due to the volcanic mineral waters. You’ll feel like you’ve wandered deep into a fairytale oasis, the perfect place to rejuvenate.
RINCON DE LA VIEJA NATIONAL PARK
Our next destination awaits as we leave La Fortuna, first making a stop at a local Maleku house. The Maleku are the indigenous people of Costa Rica, so this visit will give us a rare insight into their traditional way of life. Then we’re travelling further into the jungles of Río Celeste National Park, a place where water flows bluer than you’ll ever believe. ‘Don’t go chasing waterfalls?’ You’ll disagree when we reach the stunning pools and falls of Río Celeste. Later in the afternoon, we’ll arrive at our accommodation in Rincon de la Vieja, a lesser-known area away from the crowds, where we can truly reconnect with nature.
RINCON DE LA VIEJA NATIONAL PARK
Get your hiking shoes ready, as today we trek along jungle trails to see Costa Rica’s biodiverse beauty on full display. Volcanic vents and ancient mud pits scatter through the landscape, and with over 300 species of birds, monkeys, reptiles, and even jaguars living here, you may just discover your inner David Attenborough. This afternoon, thrill seekers have their time to shine with the option to head into the canopy for an adrenaline rush like no other on a zipline through the treetops. If you’d rather take it slow, kick back by the hotel pool and simply take in the sounds of the jungle.
SAMARA
Today’s first point of call is the quaint historical town of Liberia. We’ll gain more of an insight into Costa Rican life with a tour through the beautiful streets before grabbing lunch. On our way to Samara, we’ll visit the birthplace of Costa Rican pottery – not just an art form, but a timeless element of Costa Rican culture. This afternoon, it’s time to relax as we reach Samara. Perched on the sparkling edge of the Pacific, this coastal town retains a hip, laid-back charm. We’ll have plenty of time to soak it up over the next few nights, but first, who’s up for beach volleyball?
SAMARA
Pack your towel and sunscreen! White sand beaches, sun-drenched skies, and swaying palms await as we explore the more secluded beaches of Guanacaste today. Untouched by mass tourism, each beach offers something unique. Kick back with a good book, swim in calm waters, play a few games of football… whatever your beach vibe, we can make it happen. We have the whole day to soak up the diverse beauty of this stretch of paradise together.
SAMARA
There’s so much to do in Samara that we’ve given you an entire free day - thank us later! Whether it’s something zen like yoga, or you prefer something more active like a surf lesson or sea kayaking with snorkelling, there’s an activity for you. Otherwise, hanging out by the sea with a cold beverage topping up the tan is never a bad idea. Treat yourself, you’re on holiday!
ESTERILLOS
This morning, we head south to Esterillos - another beachside oasis known for surfing and serenity. It’s not uncommon to have this vast, unspoiled beach all to ourselves. After settling into our hotel, this afternoon we have time to explore the easy-going town, do a spot of shopping, and enjoy the slow pace of Costa Rican life over some drinks as the sun goes down.
ESTERILLOS
The spectacular Manuel Antonio National Park is in our sights, so keep your camera at the ready. This is the most visited National Park in Costa Rica – and it’ll be no surprise why as we explore its lush jungles and gorgeous beaches together. Keep your eyes peeled as we search for wildlife, including everyone’s favourite sloth! After a morning in the jungle, we’re off to see more untouched beaches. Just keep your eyes out for the cheeky monkeys, who also call these beaches home.
SAN JOSÉ
Leaving the coast behind, today we travel back to San José - where it all started. On the way, we’ll make a stop at the Crocodile Bridge, where you have the perfect vantage point to see these prehistoric creatures, perhaps being grateful to keep our distance. Settle back into the hotel and have a last chance to see anything you missed in San José the first time around. Tonight, we’ll gather for our farewell meal and drinks, toasting our unforgettable adventure.

The best time to visit Central America is from December to April (the dry season). This peak season boasts plenty of sunshine making it an ideal time for exploring jungles and lounging on beaches. If you don't mind getting a little morning shower, May through to November are quieter months to visit. During June and July, rain showers pause briefly, and Central American forests burst with green foliage
While there are certain areas within Central America known for crime, these are limited and nowhere near where INTRO goes.
Central America is a very popular tourist destination and safe to travel to, with only the need for the usual commonsense precautions we recommend for all our destinations.
At INTRO we have not only chosen the most beautiful and fascinating areas of Central America but also places we know to be safe. Another benefit of travelling Central America as part of a guided group tour.
The Acatenango overnight volcano hike is EPIC but quite challenging, taking up to 7 hours to ascend, and requires a reasonably good level of fitness. The hike involves steep sections and rugged terrain, which can be demanding at high elevations. You will need some warm layers, a waterproof jacket, a good pair of trainers or hiking boots and travel insurance that covers hikes up to 4000m. This is usually an add-on to standard travel insurance. There is a chance you may be affected by the high altitude so we recommend checking with your GP if you can take Diamox (for altitude sickness) prior to your trip.
The volcano hike is included in the price of the tour, however you can choose not to do it if you don’t feel comfortable with it’s difficulty. If so please let us know prior to your tour departure and we will provide you alternative accommodation and a traditional chocolate making experience in Antigua for that night and following day as a substitute, at no extra cost.
If you choose to do the hike but do not make it all the way, we will ensure you get safely to alternative accommodation for the night, however this accommodation will be at an extra cost to you as it is on top of the hike costs already incurred by us.

We stay at a mix of nice quality accommodations on this trip. Mostly twin share, traditional style 3-star hotels. One night we will split into smaller groups and stay at an authentic homestay with a Mayan family who speak little to no English. Despite the language barrier, our hosts will welcome us into their simple homes, share their customs, and teach us some Mayan and Spanish language. A truly unique experience.

Where can I update my arrival information for my tour?
Once you have booked your flights please log into the Manage My Booking area of our website and let us know your flight arrival details. If you are arriving early we can still arrange your airport transfer for you. You can book and pay for any extra nights accommodation in the Manage My Booking area of our website. The cost and availability of extra nights will vary depending on which tour you have booked.

Can I book pre-tour accommodation with you?
If you are arriving before the start date you can book extra nights at the tour accommodation. To do this, simply log into the Manage My Booking area of our website, add the extra nights and pay for them.
Can I book post-tour accommodation with you?
Your group leader will book post-tour accommodation for you when you are on tour. Just need to let them know when you arrive.
How do I organise my airport transfer?
Our tour in Central America includes an airport transfer for when you arrive. Once you have booked your flights simply log into the Manage My Booking Area of our website and let us know your flight arrival details. If you are arriving early and staying at the tour accommodation we will still arrange your airport transfer. Please let us know if you do not require an airport transfer.
A return transfer (after the tour) is not included, however your group leader can help arrange this for you, along with any other onward travel you need.

Are flights included in the price?
Flights to and from Central America are not included in the price of the tour and will need to be booked separately. However if your tour has an internal flight as part of the itinerary, then this is included!

Is travel insurance compulsory?
Travel insurance is compulsory for all our trips. You’ll need to show proof of your policy to your group leader upon arrival (on your phone or printed). You can get a quote and purchase your travel insurance here.
Do I need a visa and can you arrange it for me?
Visa requirements vary depending on the country you are travelling to and your nationality. It’s your responsibility to check the visa and entry requirements for the country/s you will be travelling to. There is some information about visas in our INTRO Travel App, which you can download here for iPhone or Google
IMPORTANT: We cannot apply for your visa for you and strongly recommend that you check on the relevant embassy or consulate website for the country/s you’ll be travelling to well in advance of your departure, as requirements can change and some countries require you to apply for a visa before you travel.
How much spending money will I need?
All your activities, transport, accommodation and some meals are included in the tour, so you will mainly just need money for extra meals, drinks, shopping and onward travel.

What’s the best way to access my money?
We recommend getting a Wise travel card, which will allow you to pay for things in local currency and avoid getting charged high foreign exchange fees by your bank.

What should I pack for my tour?
Whether you have a backpack or a suitcase the main thing to keep in mind is not to bring too much stuff! We strongly recommend that you bring less than 20 kgs of stuff with you.
If you haven’t got a backpack yet, try and get one that zips open along the side. There will be places on the tour where you can do laundry, so you don’t need to bring 16 pairs of shorts with you.

How many people will be in my group?
Our groups usually have around 12-16 people on them, usually aged between 18 to early 40's. We get people from all over the world on our tours, so you’ll get to bond with a wide range of travellers who all share that same passion for adventure! As long as you have an appetite for adventure and are happy bonding with people of all backgrounds, you’ll fit in perfectly!

You can reach out to your fellow travellers in our designated Facebook groups. We have a Facebook group for all our destinations, if you go to our INTRO Travel Community Facebook page you will be able to find the relevant group for your destination.

What if I'm travelling solo?
If you're struggling to convince your friends to join you on an adventure, you're not alone!
Travelling solo on a group tour can be one of the most exciting ways to experience a new destination, and you won't have to wait around for your mates to be ready. You leave yourself open to meeting amazing people, making new friends, and can keep yourself and your onward travel plans flexible.
The majority of our group members are solo travellers, so joining one of our group tours is a great way to meet people and make friends. Before your trip starts we'll put you in touch with the rest of your group so you can start chatting and get to know each other. Once you’ve made a booking just let us know who you’re travelling with and we can make a note that you are travelling together, and can put you in the same room.

Hola and welcome to Mexico City! On arrival we’ll meet you at the airport and take you to our hotel. You’ll have time to relax before meeting up with your new group of mates, and this evening we’ll head out and immerse ourselves in the capital's intoxicating atmosphere and get excited for the adventures to come!
Bursting with colour and passion, today we explore the fascinating historical centre of Mexico City. We’ll gain insight into the Aztec Empire and learn about the history of the Spanish conquest. Passing icons like the Cathedral Metropolitan and Zocalo, we’ll have free time to explore and even listen to a mariachi song. Tonight we enjoy a traditional Mexican dinner and show together in Plaza Garibaldi.
After breakfast we’ll wave adiós to the city and depart for the beautiful town of Puebla, flanked by four of Mexico’s famous volcanoes. This is the perfect opportunity to learn about the history of the area – especially considering this is where Cinco de Mayo originates from! Following lunch, we’ll continue our journey to the famous Oaxaca (pronounced wah-HAH-kah). Once checked in, we’ll head out and discover the charming streets by moonlight, finding tucked away gems. Memelas, mole and empanadas are all on the menu!
Today we dive into the vibrant heart of Oaxaca, a cultural gem in Mexico! We'll lose ourselves in the lively, colourful markets, marvel at breathtaking cathedrals, and fully immerse in the authentic local atmosphere. After our day of exploring, the adventure continues with a night of savouring Oaxaca’s mouth-watering culinary delights.
Enjoy a relaxed morning, explore more of the town or pick up some local souvenirs before we head into a nearby valley to visit a local family and learn how hand-made textiles are produced. But the culture kicks don’t stop there, as next up we’re heading to a traditional mezcal distillery. We’ll learn all about this energizing spirit and knock back a shot or two before continuing our journey to Tehuantepec for an overnight stop.
Hopping on a local boat we’ll cruise through the immense Canyon of Sumidero, spotting towering waterfalls, lush jungle valleys, searching for monkeys and even coming face to face with crocodiles! We’ll then head up into mountains to our next destination - the iconic city of San Cristobal de las Casas. Enjoy a short walking tour and Pox tasting - a traditional drink from Chiapas region, before heading out for an incredible dinner.
We’ll visit a local family in the beautiful small town of Zinacantan. We’ll then head to the small town of San Juan Chamula to explore and visit a one-of-a-kind church before heading back to San Cristobal de las Casas. You have free time to explore this cobblestoned city, local markets, and try Chiapas coffee – some of the smoothest in the world.
Leaving beautiful San Cristobal, today we hop on an included flight across Mexico and land in the wonderful hustle and bustle of Cancun, no time wasted. Situated on the Yucatán Peninsula, we’ll get our first taste of Caribbean bliss and boujee-ness. This afternoon all you need to worry about is which cocktail to order by the pool – what a life (dependant on flight time).
This morning we’re off on a ferry to the paradise of Isla Holbox. When we say paradise, we mean it – think sun-drenched, powder-white beaches, emerald waters, rich marine life and rustic villages. We’ll have time to settle into the pace of island life, tuck into some authentic food, watch the sunset and pull up at a beach bar for an evening of tropical beats under the stars.
Today we get to dive deep (literally) into the beauty of Isla Holbox with a boat tour. Keeping our eyes peeled for the famously photogenic pink flamingos, we’ll stop off at hidden island oasis’s and check out a local cenote. This afternoon is yours to find a hammock to lounge in, and maybe crack into that book you’ve been carrying around. Sea, relax, repeat, it’s the perfect day to unplug.
Today our Mexican adventure continues back into the Yucatán. Swapping slow island vibes for something a bit more high energy, we’ll check into our hotel in Playa del Carmen and have plenty of time to explore all the beaches, bars and tacos this world-famous hotspot has to offer. Souvenir shopping, anyone?
Getting into explorer mode, today we head to one of the New Seven Wonders of the World - Chichén Itzá. A local guide will introduce us to the myths and majesty of these iconic ruins, including Temple of Kukulkan (‘El Castillo’), the Platform of the Skulls, and the Plaza of a Thousand Columns. Later, we'll have a once-in-a-lifetime experience in the crystal waters of a stunning cenote, a natural limestone swimming hole in a secret subterranean world.
Fiesta, siesta, today we do it all! Hitting the road this morning, we’re off to Tulum. We'll have the option to marvel in the archeological Tulum ruins, or chill in the bluer-than-blue waters of Tulum beach. Back in Playa there’s time to get ready before dinner. Let’s smash some avocado, down a tequila shot (or more), get a little loco!
We leave the busyness of Playa behind this morning, so jump on our bus as we travel south to the Yucatán Peninsula. We’ll make the most of Bacalar – also known as the Lagoon of Seven Colours – with a sunset boat trip. Gliding across the water, shades of turquoise ripple below us, and what better way to cool off than by jumping straight in? As the sun goes down, the sky’s warm hues reflect on the lagoon’s surface – so grab a local beer and cheers to a day in paradise.
Our journey continues south today as we cross the border to our next country of the trip – Belize! Belize has the second-largest barrier reef in the world, so we are heading straight to the sea on a short ferry to Caye Caulker. A small, walkable island, our hotel is less than a minute from the beach, so drop your bags and get straight out to the white sand. We will meet for sunset on the other side of the island, where the friendly local stingrays come up and literally swim between you.
Get your snorkels at the ready as we jump on a boat out to the incredible Hol Chan Marine Reserve, home to a vast array of marine life. At each stop, plunge into the warm water to reveal a kaleidoscope of colours: fish dart around you, coral reefs teem with life, and rays glide calmy below. At our last stop, keep your fingers crossed as there is a chance to see what the locals endearingly call sea cows – otherwise known as manatees. For dinner, find a local eatery serving up fresh seafood, drizzled with taste-bud-tingling Caribbean curry sauce. Okay, now we’re hungry.
Today is yours to explore at your own pace, so you’ll probably want to head to a beautiful beach or the famous ‘Split’, a natural divide created by a hurricane and the perfect spot to swim as reggae tunes play in the distance. Caye Caulker embodies the essence of Caribbean relaxation, so whether you’re eager to lounge in a hammock, sip a rum punch, go paddleboarding or explore the rich underwater world some more, we will make sure you make the most of it.
Departing the sandy shores, we’re leaving behind Belize’s Caribbean vibes for something different. As the terrain shifts, we pass small towns and charming roadside stands selling local goods. For lunch, we’ll stop in a Mayan village, a place that embodies an ancient culture that is truly a world away from our island experience. Greeted with warm smiles, together we learn how to cook a Mayan feast the traditional way, gaining insight into the Mayan heritage that still thrives here. Bellies full, we will cross the border to Guatemala and check into our hotel on the tiny island of Flores.
Get your Indiana Jones impression ready as we turn the clocks back thousands of years. Hidden deep in the northern jungles of Guatemala, the sprawling archaeological site of Tikal stands as a testament to the grandeur of the pre-Columbian Maya civilization. The air – thick with humidity – adds to the mystery of the giant ceremonial Lost World (Mundo Perdido) Pyramid and the Temple of the Grand Jaguar as we explore the complex with local guides.
Guatemala takes up a big chunk of Central America, so today we cover some distance as we travel south to the highlands. The good news is we will break up the journey with a tour of the epic Candelaria Caves – an 80km long cave system with significance to the Mayan Culture. It’s believed to be the entrance to the underworld, but you can make up your own mind! Back under the sun, we continue to Cobán, a colourful city set amongst the mountains of central Guatemala.
Our 4X4s are ready to take us on an adventure into the highlands this morning. Hold on tight as we travel up into the mountains, with jaw-dropping views all around us. But the adventure is not over, as we need to take the final section by foot, hiking deeper into the jungle. Emerging from the trees we’ll find what we’ve been looking for – a bright blue river carved into the mountain, cascading down the valley, leaving beautiful pools bordered with vibrant, light green algae. The whole day is ours to bath in the refreshing pools! Then, we’ll take the fun to the next level and drift down the river in rubber rings. We’ll then arrive at an authentic Mayan home for a traditional, mouthwatering lunch. What a day!
Today our journey continues south through the highlands, stopping at the bright town of Chichicastenango. This town is a hub of Indigenous Maya traditions, and if we’re lucky we can experience its famous local markets, one of the largest in Central America. Later we’ll arrive in Panajachel, our overnight stay right on the shores of Lake Atitlán. With the sound of lapping water and towering volcanoes on the skyline, you’ll want to pinch yourself. This is quintessential Central America.
The quickest way to travel across Lake Atitlán is via boat, so doing as the locals do we’re hopping on a boat to absorb the panoramic views and head to San Marco’s. Known for being a little hippy – and extremely zen – the water entices us in for a swim. Our next stop is San Juan, home for the night, where we’re staying at an authentic homestay with a Mayan family in smaller groups to really get to know how the locals live. Despite the language barrier, our hosts will greet us with warm smiles and open hearts. Over dinner we can trade phrases, learning some Mayan along with the more widely spoken Spanish. At the very least, laughter is universal!
It’s an early start, but trust us, this one is worth getting up for. Starting in pre-dawn darkness, we’re hiking under the moonlight to reach the summit of Mayan Face Mountain, known for its unique profile resembling a Mayan Face. Just as we reach the top, the sun creeps over the horizon, revealing the beauty of Lake Atitlán from above. Our local guides will provide hot cocoa as we bask in the view, feeling a sense of accomplishment from the hike. Back down, we’ll share breakfast with the local families before we say goodbye and head towards Antigua.
Today enjoy some well-deserved free time to explore the colonial town of Antigua, a favourite for tourists and locals alike. Start your day with a leisurely breakfast at a cozy café, savouring freshly brewed Guatemalan coffee and huevos rancheros, before strolling through the parks, churches and markets. In Antigua, there’s a photo opportunity at every turn.
Today, gear up for the adventure of a lifetime. Those volcanoes we’ve been viewing from afar? Today we’re climbing one, and while it won’t be easy, the exhilarating experience will be incredibly rewarding for those willing to push their limits. Over several hours we ascend through lush forests into rocky terrain, and when the hike gets steep our local guide will keep us entertained by sharing insights about the region. As the sun sets low and the air gets thin, we reach our campsite near the summit above the clouds, setting up for an epic evening. Night falls, the sky fills with stars, and the active Volcan Fuego – AKA Fire Volcano – mesmerises us as lava bursts from the crater. An early start and steep final climb to the summit rewards us with breathtaking views of Volcan Fuego, the Antigua Valley and Guatemalan highlands stretching to Mexico. Feeling (literally) on top of the world, we’ll take in the 360 views and then start our descent to Antigua. Whatever goes up, must come down, after all. Back in town, there’s time to freshen up and explore the streets of Antigua, plus any sights you may have missed before. Finally, it’s time to dress up as we will have one final dinner and drinks in Guatemala. But don’t worry, there’s plenty more to come…
Who is ready for another, yes - another, country? A short included flight takes us to Costa Rica, and after landing in San José (depending on the flight time) we will have some time to dive straight into another culture. San José has some fantastic museums to start learning about Costa Rica firsthand. Tonight, we’ll head out to a local restaurant and meet our new adventure companions for the next leg of our journey.
Today we begin learning about the rich culture and history of San José on a walking tour with a local guide who’ll point out the stunning architecture and beautiful parks nestled around every corner. This afternoon, watch the landscape shift as we travel to La Fortuna, making a stop to learn about the decorated Ox Carts that have been fundamental to Costa Rican farm life. Upon arriving in La Fortuna – a charming town known for its jungle wellness retreats – you can’t help but miss the Arenal Volcano dominating the skyline. Time to embrace the pura vida spirit!
The outdoors await as we head into the rainforest to witness Arenal Volcano in all her majesty. Thick trails lie ahead, rewarding our efforts with incredible views of the volcano and lava fields. After sunset we’ll venture off on an evening walk, keeping an eye out for nocturnal animals, including rare frogs, tapirs, monkeys and reptiles that call this place home. But don’t worry, we’ll be safe in the hands of a guide who’ll fill us in on some fascinating insights along the way.
This morning we’re off to meet a family who’ve lived in La Fortuna for generations. As they show us around their farm, we’ll learn how they harvest local fruit and veg, then see how a traditional Casado lunch is prepared as vibrant spices and freshly picked produce are transformed into mouthwatering dishes. With a bit of home-grown coffee to top off the experience, we’ll head back to soothe our muscles with a soak in natural hot pools, renowned for their healing properties due to the volcanic mineral waters. You’ll feel like you’ve wandered deep into a fairytale oasis, the perfect place to rejuvenate.
Our next destination awaits as we leave La Fortuna, first making a stop at a local Maleku house. The Maleku are the indigenous people of Costa Rica, so this visit will give us a rare insight into their traditional way of life. Then we’re travelling further into the jungles of Río Celeste National Park, a place where water flows bluer than you’ll ever believe. ‘Don’t go chasing waterfalls?’ You’ll disagree when we reach the stunning pools and falls of Río Celeste. Later in the afternoon, we’ll arrive at our accommodation in Rincon de la Vieja, a lesser-known area away from the crowds, where we can truly reconnect with nature.
Get your hiking shoes ready, as today we trek along jungle trails to see Costa Rica’s biodiverse beauty on full display. Volcanic vents and ancient mud pits scatter through the landscape, and with over 300 species of birds, monkeys, reptiles, and even jaguars living here, you may just discover your inner David Attenborough. This afternoon, thrill seekers have their time to shine with the option to head into the canopy for an adrenaline rush like no other on a zipline through the treetops. If you’d rather take it slow, kick back by the hotel pool and simply take in the sounds of the jungle.
Today’s first point of call is the quaint historical town of Liberia. We’ll gain more of an insight into Costa Rican life with a tour through the beautiful streets before grabbing lunch. On our way to Samara, we’ll visit the birthplace of Costa Rican pottery – not just an art form, but a timeless element of Costa Rican culture. This afternoon, it’s time to relax as we reach Samara. Perched on the sparkling edge of the Pacific, this coastal town retains a hip, laid-back charm. We’ll have plenty of time to soak it up over the next few nights, but first, who’s up for beach volleyball?
Pack your towel and sunscreen! White sand beaches, sun-drenched skies, and swaying palms await as we explore the more secluded beaches of Guanacaste today. Untouched by mass tourism, each beach offers something unique. Kick back with a good book, swim in calm waters, play a few games of football… whatever your beach vibe, we can make it happen. We have the whole day to soak up the diverse beauty of this stretch of paradise together.
There’s so much to do in Samara that we’ve given you an entire free day - thank us later! Whether it’s something zen like yoga, or you prefer something more active like a surf lesson or sea kayaking with snorkelling, there’s an activity for you. Otherwise, hanging out by the sea with a cold beverage topping up the tan is never a bad idea. Treat yourself, you’re on holiday!
This morning, we head south to Esterillos - another beachside oasis known for surfing and serenity. It’s not uncommon to have this vast, unspoiled beach all to ourselves. After settling into our hotel, this afternoon we have time to explore the easy-going town, do a spot of shopping, and enjoy the slow pace of Costa Rican life over some drinks as the sun goes down.
The spectacular Manuel Antonio National Park is in our sights, so keep your camera at the ready. This is the most visited National Park in Costa Rica – and it’ll be no surprise why as we explore its lush jungles and gorgeous beaches together. Keep your eyes peeled as we search for wildlife, including everyone’s favourite sloth! After a morning in the jungle, we’re off to see more untouched beaches. Just keep your eyes out for the cheeky monkeys, who also call these beaches home.
Leaving the coast behind, today we travel back to San José - where it all started. On the way, we’ll make a stop at the Crocodile Bridge, where you have the perfect vantage point to see these prehistoric creatures, perhaps being grateful to keep our distance. Settle back into the hotel and have a last chance to see anything you missed in San José the first time around. Tonight, we’ll gather for our farewell meal and drinks, toasting our unforgettable adventure.

The best time to visit Central America is from December to April (the dry season). This peak season boasts plenty of sunshine making it an ideal time for exploring jungles and lounging on beaches. If you don't mind getting a little morning shower, May through to November are quieter months to visit. During June and July, rain showers pause briefly, and Central American forests burst with green foliage
While there are certain areas within Central America known for crime, these are limited and nowhere near where INTRO goes.
Central America is a very popular tourist destination and safe to travel to, with only the need for the usual commonsense precautions we recommend for all our destinations.

The Acatenango overnight volcano hike is EPIC but quite challenging, taking up to 7 hours to ascend, and requires a reasonably good level of fitness. The hike involves steep sections and rugged terrain, which can be demanding at high elevations. You will need some warm layers, a waterproof jacket, a good pair of trainers or hiking boots and travel insurance that covers hikes up to 4000m. This is usually an add-on to standard travel insurance. There is a chance you may be affected by the high altitude so we recommend checking with your GP if you can take Diamox (for altitude sickness) prior to your trip.
The volcano hike is included in the price of the tour, however you can choose not to do it if you don’t feel comfortable with it’s difficulty. If so please let us know prior to your tour departure and we will provide you alternative accommodation and a traditional chocolate making experience in Antigua for that night and following day as a substitute, at no extra cost.
If you choose to do the hike but do not make it all the way, we will ensure you get safely to alternative accommodation for the night, however this accommodation will be at an extra cost to you as it is on top of the hike costs already incurred by us.

We stay at a mix of nice quality accommodations on this trip. Mostly twin share, traditional style 3-star hotels. One night we will split into smaller groups and stay at an authentic homestay with a Mayan family who speak little to no English. Despite the language barrier, our hosts will welcome us into their simple homes, share their customs, and teach us some Mayan and Spanish language. A truly unique experience.

Where can I update my arrival information for my tour?
Once you have booked your flights please log into the Manage My Booking area of our website and let us know your flight arrival details. If you are arriving early we can still arrange your airport transfer for you. You can book and pay for any extra nights accommodation in the Manage My Booking area of our website. The cost and availability of extra nights will vary depending on which tour you have booked.

Can I book pre-tour accommodation with you?
If you are arriving before the start date you can book extra nights at the tour accommodation. To do this, simply log into the Manage My Booking area of our website, add the extra nights and pay for them.
Can I book post-tour accommodation with you?
Your group leader will book post-tour accommodation for you when you are on tour. Just need to let them know when you arrive.
How do I organise my airport transfer?
Our tour in Central America includes an airport transfer for when you arrive. Once you have booked your flights simply log into the Manage My Booking Area of our website and let us know your flight arrival details. If you are arriving early and staying at the tour accommodation we will still arrange your airport transfer. Please let us know if you do not require an airport transfer.
A return transfer (after the tour) is not included, however your group leader can help arrange this for you, along with any other onward travel you need.

Are flights included in the price?
Flights to and from Central America are not included in the price of the tour and will need to be booked separately. However if your tour has an internal flight as part of the itinerary, then this is included!

Is travel insurance compulsory?
Travel insurance is compulsory for all our trips. You’ll need to show proof of your policy to your group leader upon arrival (on your phone or printed). You can get a quote and purchase your travel insurance here.
Do I need a visa and can you arrange it for me?
Visa requirements vary depending on the country you are travelling to and your nationality. It’s your responsibility to check the visa and entry requirements for the country/s you will be travelling to. IMPORTANT: We cannot apply for your visa for you and strongly recommend that you check on the relevant embassy or consulate website for the country/s you’ll be travelling to well in advance of your departure, as requirements can change and some countries require you to apply for a visa before you travel.
How much spending money will I need?
All your activities, transport, accommodation and some meals are included in the tour, so you will mainly just need money for extra meals, drinks, shopping and onward travel.
The amount of money you’ll need depends on the tour you are doing. There’s information about how much money you’ll need for each tour in our INTRO Travel App, which you can download here for iPhone or Google
What’s the best way to access my money?
We recommend getting a Wise travel card, which will allow you to pay for things in local currency and avoid getting charged high foreign exchange fees by your bank.

What should I pack for my tour?
Whether you have a backpack or a suitcase the main thing to keep in mind is not to bring too much stuff! We strongly recommend that you bring less than 20 kgs of stuff with you.
If you haven’t got a backpack yet, try and get one that zips open along the side. There will be places on the tour where you can do laundry, so you don’t need to bring 16 pairs of shorts with you.

How many people will be in my group?
Our groups usually have around 12-16 people on them, usually aged between 18 to early 40's. We get people from all over the world on our tours, so you’ll get to bond with a wide range of travellers who all share that same passion for adventure! As long as you have an appetite for adventure and are happy bonding with people of all backgrounds, you’ll fit in perfectly!
How can I get in touch with my group?
You can reach out to your fellow travellers in our designated Facebook groups. We have a Facebook group for all our destinations, if you go to our INTRO Travel Community Facebook page you will be able to find the relevant group for your destination.
How can I get in touch with my group leader?
You will receive a ‘welcome email’ from your group leader approx. 2 weeks before your tour begins.
What if I'm travelling solo?
If you're struggling to convince your friends to join you on an adventure, you're not alone!
Travelling solo on a group tour can be one of the most exciting ways to experience a new destination, and you won't have to wait around for your mates to be ready. You leave yourself open to meeting amazing people, making new friends, and can keep yourself and your onward travel plans flexible.
The majority of our group members are solo travellers, so joining one of our group tours is a great way to meet people and make friends. Before your trip starts we'll put you in touch with the rest of your group so you can start chatting and get to know each other. And after the trip a lot of people continue travelling with the new friends they've made!
What if I'm travelling with a friend/s or partner?
Once you’ve made a booking just let us know who you’re travelling with and we can make a note that you are travelling together, and can put you in the same room.
A big part of the INTRO Travel difference is our after-trip support. Your group leader will spend enough time as needed to ensure you are totally comfortable and confident with where you’re going next. And can help organise and book whatever you need, including any transport, accommodation or trips you may want. We'll also provide 24/7 support and advice after your trip, and will always be there to help when you need it.
